Maths Rotations

In Maths we have been focusing on subtraction. We looked at subtraction facts including ten facts, doubles and zero facts. We used different strategies to solve them including using our fingers, counters, number lines and drawing pictures.  

Science- Spot the Difference

This term we are looking at Chemical Sciences through a unit called 'Spot the Difference'. We will be  looking at different chemical changes that occur with foods. 

This week we explored spaghetti. We were shown some cooked spaghetti and described how it looked, how it smelt and what it felt like. We then did the same with uncooked spaghetti.

After that Mrs Pye explained that we would be making towers using spaghetti and marshmellows. She began building her tower with cooked spaghetti but it wouldn't stand up. We suggested she used the uncooked spaghetti instead, which was much better.

We then got into teams and had a go at creating our own towers using only uncooked spaghetti and marshmellows. 

Mothers Day Morning Tea

Last Friday we pampered our mums during our 'Mothers Day Morning Tea'. 

When our mums arrived we sung them a song that we had been practising. 

After the song we took them to each of the activities which included painting their nails, giving them a hand massage, drawing their portraits and making braclets for our mums. 

We loved pampering our mums and doing something nice for them, as they do so much for us.

Mearuring Length

In Measurement we have been measuring the length of different objects using both informal and formal units. We learnt that the unit we use to measure something must be kept the same to get an accurate measurement. We discovered that different units are suited to measure different things. For example a smaller unit would be chosen to measure a small object and a bigger unit would be chosen to measure a big object.

Some of the different units we experimented with were our hands, our feet, blocks, pop-sticks, metre straws and star fish rulers.

To finish off our unit on measurement Mrs Pye cut the lengths of a T-Rex's body, arms, feet, head and teeth out of wool. We chose different units to measure each body part depending on its length. We used a metre straw to measure its body, pop-sticks to measure its head and feet and blocks to measure its arms and teeth.

Dinosaur Shields

Last term for Science and Design and Technology we researched how different dinosaurs protect themselves. We worked in pairs to design a shield that would protect us against a dinosaur. Our shields included different parts such as plates, spikes, horns and tough skin.

Science- Dinosaur Models

In Science we have been focusing on dinosaurs and how paleontologists used the bones and fossils they found to predict what the ate and looked like. 

We got to see what it was like for the paleontologists by using plasticine to create models of dinosaurs, without looking at any photos of them.

Have a look at how great they turned out. 

Partitioning Numbers

Last week in Mathematics we focused on partitioning numbers. We did this by breaking a whole number into two parts in different ways. We participated in a variety of activities that allowed us to explore the different ways one and two digit numbers can be partitioned.
